Malacca Trip - 30/8/2008 to 1/9/2008

Few months ago, Darling and I decided to go Malacca for satay celup and chicken rice balls.
We booked Mimosa Hotel, which is located in the mid of Malacca city..I guess..
FYI..

Room rate: RM98 per nite
Surchage for peak season: RM40
Breakfast
inlcuded.
Chech this out:

But few days b4 the trip, both of us were considering whether or not to procede with the trip.
Short conversation between both of us on Thursday morning, which is 28/08/2008, while we on our way to office..(actually this conversation had been repeating for the past few days..mon, tues, wed..we really couldn't make up our mind..)

Me: Darling, so how? Still want to go or nt?
Darling: I'm ok one. See you only.
Me: I ching chai one. I see you only. I know you want to go one..
Darling: So how?
Me: I go Malacca only to eat satay celup and chicken rice balls nia. I
let u decide.

Darling: I anything. What you think?

After several minutes of po po ma ma conversation..finally...

Me: Aiyah..go lah..go lah..so susah..

Malacca, here we come!!

We started driving at 1++pm on saturday, 30/8/2008.
The weather is damn hot..
Darling kept on wiping his sweat..
Darling's old junk (hahahaha..sorry Darling, it's jsut a joke..) couldn't be any faster..
A lot of cars..super fast..passed us by..
We chit chat..lol on silly topics..ate lays..listened to Tommy Page's songs (I don't really like his songs, but Darling loves them..hhmmm..)..

Malacca has few things similar to my hometown, Kuching..
1. lots of traffic lights
2. Old shops
3. Places you want to go are within walking distance..perhaps..

We reached Malacca at nearly 4pm.
Mimosa Hotel's parking lots are full of cars.
We got no parking lot, so Darling parked beside 2 cars..of cz, we ensured that we din block the 2 cars beside.
We checked in and rest a while..

I told Darling we had to go early for satay celup, if nt, we gotta wait for our turn.
So, at 4:15pm, we walked all the way to Restaurant Capitol..famous of its satay celup.
When we reached there, the shop had yet to open.
Darling blamed me for reaching early..

Walking under hot sun..we were thirsty..
Found one soya bean stall opposite, we both walked across the street to get ourselves 1 cup of soya bean mix with cincau each..recommended by the uncle, stall owner..altho we already knew the mixture of soya bean and cincau.
In fact, we already bought 1 pack of soya bean and 2 cans of cincau the nite b4.

We enjoyed our drink at the seats prepared by the uncle.
Chit chat with him, we found that Singaporeans don't like to eat satay celup..u know y?
HYGIENE is the main reason.
I dunno how true it is..coz I found from other websites which mentioned Singaporeans like satay celup.

We saw a group of 7 ppl walking towards Restaurant Capitol.
I quickly informed Darling to wait in front of the shop.
We were the first to reach, I didn't want us to be the last to get table..
We both walked to the pet shop next door.
Lotsa rats in a cage, damn smelly..
Darling went into the shop..looking at those pretty fish..

As we saw more ppl waiting outside the restaurant, we walked over and wait.
Nearly 10mins later, the shop opened.
We got the inner most table.
In few secs, all the tables were occupied..
Some ppl are left standing outside, waiting for their dinner.

The restaurant increased the price for per stick of food.
Darling recalled that previously rm0.60 was charged per stick.
Now they charge rm0.70.
I took lotsa prawns..hehe..kangkung, meat ball "bak yi", a plate of toufu, bird eggs..hhmm..wat else..
Darling took all his favourite.."tau ki".
We both ate 43 sticks.
In total, we paid RM30++.

After dinner, we walked to the fruit stalls opposite our hotel.
Bought a kilo of longan, then back to hotel for a rest.
At 7sth, we walked to jonker walk.
There are a lot of ppl and stalls selling accessories, cakes, biscuits, keropok, drinks, food..etc.
The first stall is a "qi-gong" demo. From the poster hanging at his stall, I guess it is sth like an old man capable of breaking bricks using his bare hand..
Walked till the end of the street, there are some 30 to 50 of age hot mamas dancing in pop songs.
Wow!!
A great experience tho..
As we didn't feel like spending much, so, we walked back to hotel with 2 pieces of local made kuih..hehe..
Back to hotel, Darling finished his lays in jsut few mins!! Surprised me!!

The next day, we both woke up at 8++am to catch ourselves some breakfast prepared by the hotel.
Normal breakfast: Nasi lemak, hokkien mee, fried eggs, potato wedges, hotdogs, toast, porridge, coffee, tea, orange juice and soya bean.

After a heavy breakfast, we took an umbrella and 2 hand towels, wore our sport shoes, we walked all the way to Dataran Pahlawan and Malacca Parade..2 shopping malls nearby..we passed by Christ Church, Stadthuys, a military museum with big military ship, a huge pirate ship..
We din pay a visit inside as it incurred charges.
Perhaps next round of Malacca trip, we will..

Round and round the 2 shopping malls..nth much..we walked back to hotel.
On the way back, we walked along a river.
From far, I noticed something swimming in the river below the bridge (I couldn't recall the bridge name)..
Then I heard some kids shouting "Snakes! Snakes!"
We both walked closer, saw a four legged snake swimming across the river.
A bunch of ppl nearby, including us, looked at the "snake" till it moved into a small drain.

Reached hotel, we slept the whole afternoon.
At 6++pm, we went for dinner at jonker walk..Famosa Chicken Rice Ball..
This shop gives no flexibility in certain orders.

Eg 1:
fish ball and wanton.
Stated in menu: fish ball rm0.60 per piece; wanton rm0.60 per piece.
We wanted to order 6 pieces of fish ball and wanton each.
But the waitress told us we couldn't order this way.
She claimed that if we wanted to have a mixture of fish ball and
wanton, we had to order 10 each.
--> 1st drawback

Eg 2:
Chicken rice ball.
I couldn't rmbr how much per ball.
We wanted to order 6 chicken rice ball.
The waitress again told us we couldn't order this way.
She told us the minimum chicken rice ball to order is 10.
--> 2nd drawback

How can 2 persons finish 10 rice balls??
Anyway, we ordered normal plate of chicken rice...SPOIL THE MOOD only! y?
Cz my main intention going to Malacca is to eat satay celup and chicken rice balls.
Seriously, if not becz of the food pictures posted outside the door, we won't have try it.
We ordered fried pork "siu yok" RM6, 1/4 roasted chicken RM8, 1/4 steamed chicken RM8, 1 bowl of toufu soup RM6, 1 ice lemon tea rm2, 3 plates of rice RM1.30 each..total=RM33.90..
The "siu yok" was not crispy enuf.

Recommended chicken rice ball: Restaurant Chung Wah --> located on the right of the bridge..not far from jonker walk.

After dinner, we walked out of jonker walk, back to hotel.
We finished our second packet of lays.

Darling: I feel like want to eat chips lah..
Me: Har!
Darling: After finish this lays, we go down buy lah..

We looked around and found one supermarket.
We went up up up..to the top level...found NOTHING!!
A supermarket that only sells men and women clothing and house hold groceries..but no food section.
We found a bakery..nth much in there..we only bought a packet of keropok.
On the way back, we saw a stall selling "cha kueh"..looks tasty, we bought a packet..rm3.50.
We enjoyed the "cha kueh" after our bath..not bad.

But kesian..Darling fell sick.
After brushing his teeth, Darling felt cold and covered himself under the blanket.
His forehead was really hot.
I put a wet hand towel on his forehead..hugged him till he almost fell asleep..kesian Darling..mmmmwahhh!!

The next day, Darling was feeling fine.
We got up for our breakfast.
Again, we had a heavy breakfast.
Breakffast served: fried rice, fried bihun, sweet sour chicken, fried eggs, potato wedges, cucur udang, toasts, porridge, orange, coffee and tea.

After breakfast, we headed back to our room.
Did some packings..then watched tv and read newspapers.
At 11:45am, we checked out and headed back home.

**Too bad we had yet to purchase a digi cam. If not, we will have taken and posted lotsa photos here..perhaps we'll have a digi cam b4 the next round of Malacca trip. :D
